I know that the Navy has a career in linguistics, but I was just wondering if my career was in something like computers, then can I still take some language courses? I’d love to learn another language, but can you if your specialty isn’t going to be languages? Or would I have to hope that there’s an online class for it or classes at whatever community college is near where I’m stationed?

I am a Malaysian EFL teacher working in China. I got a BA in media studies and MA in linguistics. I wanted to do a Phd in English literature as I love the subject but thinking that I may need some training on this area. Or is there any other suggestions from the floor?
PS: I may pursue my studies eventually in the US.
