What is a good learn at home portuguese course?

A good friend of mine wants to learn portuguese(Brazilian), He wants one of those learn at home type of courses. Rosetta stone seems like a very popular course, however costs at lot and I don’t know if it really works. Barnes and Nobles have different kinds, but I want to know if anybody has experienced with any type and can give suggestion. I don’t want any of these online course, because he needs something that he can take to work and away from a computer.

Any brands or course suggestions?
