Is it more time-consuming to learn web page writing by self-learning than by attending courses?

I want to learn HTML, javascript, PHP and MySQL all by self-learning because my experience is that it’s not especially efficient in attending courses. Most probably because I attend school many years ago when the teachers were not needed to learn education.

I am wondering now if I want to learn web page writing in terms of the above-mentioned programming languages nowadays, would it be more time-efficient if I learn by attending courses rather than through self-study.

It would be best if you’ve tried both ways in learning such computer things. Thank you very much!
Thank you! And I would like more detailed reasons of your opinion.

Learn HTML and PHP yourself and attend a course for MySQL because you have to learn from a professional what can be done in MySQL, it will save you from too much programming in php. I want to say that PHP should only display send data, and calculations… should be done in SQL.

Self learning is better… It may consume a bit of more time… but u will be better if u study on ur own…
no classes will provide u a complete knowledge of it…

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can do a lot of self learning. It takes a lot of commitment and dedication though. Being a course means that if you get stuck you have your teacher and classmates to talk to and ask for advice. If you have no programming experience, you would be wise to do some formal study. Its easy to pick up bad habits.

To be perfectly honest, PHP is very easy to learn, and exactly for that reason there are a lot of terrible PHP programmers, so don’t be that guy and get some proper computer science under your belt.
