The biggest beef I have with them is they way they approximate pronunciation using a grossly unscientific (as well as visually distracting) system of transcription. They are not alone in that failing, it has to be said. I used a number of Hugo courses when I was very much younger than I am now.
Let’s try to be balanced though. The Hugo verb books for Italian and Spanish are really useful – by far the best on the market. So it’s not all doom and gloom.
